Hi, I'm Kathleen. Nice to meet you.

Sharing your work with an editor takes courage. At Riley Editorial, you'll find a partner who takes that trust seriously—and who's genuinely excited about your story from page one.
I'm a Seattle-based developmental editor specializing in genre fiction (particularly romance, fantasy, sci-fi, and mystery/thriller) and narrative nonfiction. My job isn't to impose my vision on your manuscript—it's to help you get the best version of yours onto the page.
I've been a devoted reader my whole life, the kind who got in trouble for reading Tamora Pierce during class and still loses track of time finishing books in a single sitting. As a reader, I know what it feels like when a story clicks. As an editor, I know how much work it takes to get there. That’s what led me here: helping writers solve the problems standing between their manuscript and the story they know they can tell.
You love your story, but you're just not sure it's working yet. Maybe your beta readers gave you conflicting feedback and you don't know what to fix. Maybe you've revised so many times you can't see things clearly anymore. That plot hole you keep writing around, the pacing that loses readers right when it should hook them, the character arc that isn't earning its ending? That's exactly what I'm here to help with. Sharing your work with someone new can feel intimidating, and I don't take that lightly. You'll get honest, specific feedback—not vague encouragement, not a list of everything that's “wrong”—but a clear, constructive picture of what's working, what needs attention, and exactly what to do next. I'm in your corner from first draft to query letter.
Good editing requires balancing the big picture and the fine details at the same time. Before making editing my full-time focus, I spent years in tech operations turning complex problems into clear, manageable steps. I bring that same skillset to every manuscript, paired with formal training from the University of Washington's Editing Certificate program and Developmental Editing specialization. As a member of the Northwest Editors Guild, I stay actively engaged with the editing community and keep current on industry trends and best practices.
When I'm not editing, you can find me working through my TBR, testing new recipes, and negotiating dinnertime with my dog Rue, a rescue from Thailand.
